I got double-striking of two different No Java warnings on this page using
Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 on windows XP SP1. But I liked the idea of a
table background image to report No Java. I incorporated that strategy into
this test page, which seems to report accurately in many environments:
http://segal.org/java/java_working/.

If it messes up in some environments I'd appreciate hearing about it.
