Thanks for the help. I was suspecting something like this.

So the prefs folder is (int) ('p' << 24) + ('r' << 16) + ('e' << 8) + 'f' ?
or is it the other way round?

I would be very happy if Apple could incorporate such extensions into the
stubs library for Java.
