(shrug) that all strikes me as a lawyer's interpretation. I agree that
I wouldn't bet my life that Java 1.5 will be in Tiger, but the evidence
points in that direction.
Another piece of evidence (for me) is that Apple developer support told
me that the Font AffineTransform bug, which was introduced with Apple's
port of 1.4.0 two years ago, "has been resolved and will be available
when Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) is made available to the public." Which
doesn't exactly state, but indicates strongly enough for my taste, that
the fix is in Java 1.5.0.
In any event, we'll all know one way or another on the 29th.
Jim.

No, that doesn't say that OS 10.4 includes Java 1.5. It says quite the
opposite, that (the beta for) Tiger *doesn't* include (the beta for)
Java
1.5. If it did, there'd be no need to download the two separately. In
any
case, "A requires B" (here, Java 1.5 requires OS 10.4) doesn't imply
that "B
(OS 10.4) includes A (Java 1.5)". (GarageBand requires 10.3, but if
you buy
10.3, you'll discover that the box doesn't include a copy of
GarageBand.)
As well, the quote describes *beta* software, and no conclusions about
the
final release can be drawn from that. (Apple has been known to leave
out of
the released version features present in the betas.)
The only hard information there about Java 1.5 is that Apple has no
plans to
release it for anything *before* 10.4.
