You don't even need that:

Put the machine into target disk mode, connect it to a machine with a DVD-ROM drive and install from the other machine. Reboot. Done.

In a lab you can install from a modern laptop.

Built-in FireWire is a requirement of 10.4.

I'm sure most Mac users have a friend with a Mac.

Can we move on?
