Depends. They may also have leveraged some of Sun's swing OpenGL drawing pipeline acceleration, which only really worked with 1.5.


Still, improving graphics throughput at the OS level is going to help every app. It would also not surprise me if optimization focussed on Cocoa, which would help both 1.4 and 1.5 equally.
