1.5 features in 1.4 (was Re: tiger on tiger)

Apple doesn't support it yet.

I am succesfully running Sun's preview extensions (semi-working directions are in the list archives) of the 1.5 features on 1.4.2. For most things (generics being the biggest) it works great.

Consider using my Fink packages that I have mentioned before:

If these are "semi-working" for some reason, please let me know

The one big hole seems to be the new locking features.

There is a back port of the java.util.concurrent package available at:

  http://www.mathcs.emory.edu/dcl/util/backport-util-concurrent/

Doug Lea himself suggests using this backport in favour of his original concurrent package. It is a direct replacement of the JSR166 classes (where possible) with only the package names changed.
