Fwd: List signal/noise ratio

Hello once again!

I have gotten some mail from a number of people wanting some explanation of what is considered "off-topic". As I said previously, the list is aimed at technical discussions related to Java on Mac OS X. Could you discuss other issues that are related to the topic that aren't really technical, like Apple's stand on these products? Possibly. Considering the medium, there is a lot of grey area and it's human nature to wander off the path, but the key here, is to do so in a professional manner. When I first started on usenet and other technical forums, someone once told me, "Anything you post should be delivered as you would corresponding with your boss or coworkers, and that will keep you on-topic and keep the noise to a minimum". This bit of advice may not be for everyone, but it helped me and kept me away from becoming flame-bait, as well adding to flame wars. The bottom line here is to use your common sense and keep the focus of the mailing list in mind.

Hopefully, this will be the last you hear from me. Now, back to your regularly scheduled mailing list...

Hello Java-dev!

This list is for technicals discussions related to Java on Mac OS X. Apple has provided this free service as a tool to promote large scale collaboration, as well as a technical resource. There was a warning sent to the mailing list as a whole on February 24th stating that this was not a personal forum and it was not designed for discussion outside of Java on Mac OS X. It also warned that if the flaming and disgruntled attitudes continued on the list, people would be banned with no further warning. Apparently, some people chose to disregard this warning and have since been banned. If you would like to continue to discuss other off-topic, unrelated topics, feel free to do so elsewhere. If you have questions or concerns regarding this, feel free to contact me off the list.

Thank you for your cooperation.
