Thanks Eric for the warning; I'll make a note to keep an eye out for
that. My laptop is running 10.3, so it will be easy to check.
Originally I didn't post the following to the java-dev list, because I
was afraid I'm cluttering it up with so much talk on this issue.
But since two people now have brought it up:
Since the application is giving the dock such scrutiny, does it also
detect when the dock is on one side or the other? In that case,
hiding the dock would be pointless, wouldn't it?
There is not a problem for docks on the right or left in our scenario.
Our applications are set up so they can scale a couple hundred pixels
horizontally. It's only vertically where we'll have a problem.
And our current design will only offer to hide the dock if there is a
vertical problem. (So if your dock is on the left or right side, your
dock will not be hidden.)
I appreciate everyone's comments, but my question was originally a
how-to. (And a big thanks to everyone who chipped in. I was amazed at
how easy it was.) :) But now the discussion is gravitating towards a
discussion on interface decisions, and I'm not sure that belongs in the
java-dev list. (?) But I'm new to the list, so I'll follow everyone
else's lead... if everyone else keeps commenting, then I'll keep
responding.
