Have you considered profiling the RasterMaster library, to find out where
the time is spent? It might be something simple or correctable.
Also, how many seconds is "very poor", and on which Mac configurations? If
I run a specific Java program on a 266 MHz G3 iMac with 128 MB RAM, it's
very different from a 1.2 GHz G4 with 512 MB RAM.
