Re: Newbie Shark/Java issues

Bill,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I did the start button. My "hello" program loops for a while printing Hi every 3 or 4 seconds to try to give Shark something interesting to report, but it never does.

I used the XrunShark flag first since it looked easier. That caused Shark to quit "unexpectedly". Good to know someone out there got results, though.

Did you use trace one of the three Java selections? I got it to work with the normal time tracing.

Yes, it was working with "Java Time Trace".

I am using Shark 4.0.1 (v432) if it makes any difference.

Anyone else out there have success/failure with Shark & Java?

Thanks again,
Eric

Eric,

I've only used Shark a little and I've always had to run the app separately. When launching from within Shark I always get a "Failed to find Shark for Java port" message. When running the app standalone with the -XrunShark flag it works fine.

You did click the Start button to start sampling didn't you?

Hello everyone,

I have had no luck in using Shark to profile my dangling Java object references. I've even tried running Shark on a "Hello World!" program with no success.

I start the "Hello" program from within Shark. I let the program run for 10 or 15 seconds. Then I stop Shark before the program terminates, but all I get is a drop down dialog box "ERROR: No samples taken. [JavaTraceDataSource]"

I've had other problems, but if I can just get the first "Java Time Trace" to work the other problems may go away. I basically have not been able to do ANY Java profiling with Shark yet. Any hints will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,
Eric
