You will have to obtain permission from an admin-user in order to install
J2SE 5.0, because it is a system framework.  At present, this can only be
accomplished through Installer.app, which installs Apple's .pkg file.

There are several possible interpretations of "make it the default".
Please explain exactly what form of Java program you are trying to make
J2SE 5.0 the default for:
  - browser applet
  - Java Web Start app
  - double-clickable jar-file
  - bundled as a .app
  - the 'java' command in Terminal or shell-scripts

There's already a lot of past postings on this subject.  If you can be
specific about what you're trying to do, we may be able to point you to a
specific answer.  Otherwise you can search the list archives yourself,
using the Search link near the bottom of any list-archive page.
