Or you could pay attention to the Apple engineers that have posted to this list and NOT screw up your installation by following the unsupported instructions at that URL.

Apple doesn't seem to want people messing with the Current* symlinks.

All you really need to do is make sure you run the commands in /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5/Commands/ when you want Java 5 instead of Java 1.4.

I use a shell alias (e.g. java5, java5c) and it works fine.  You can also alter your PATH so that the commands from the Java 5 install are found before those of Java 1.4.
