I had this problem running a manually-built Postgres in 10.3 (no problem in 10.4 though). After googling around I got the idea that increasing the amount of allotted shared memory would fix the problem. I thought that something like sysctl -w kern.sysv.shmmax=33554432 would fix the problem, but I ended up having to put it in one of the rc scripts to get it to stick. The parameter (at least in 10.3) was defaulted to 4 megs. Gary Dusbabek Okay, thanks for the help. Manually resetting the memory (or whatever that was) worked for me, and it's installed.
