Just so we don't make the assumption… your XML file declares it is encoded as ISO-8879, right? (Since that is the doc you are looking at) How about if you change the XML file to be encoded to 8859? Does the parser behave better then? Which leads to the question, what parser are you using? (The default in 1.4 is crimson.)
