What makes it stranger is that the applet works fine in Safari,
However use of the appletviewer is a necessity for the version
that integrates with FreeWRL.
Thanks!

With what OS and version of Java are you seeing this problem? It
appears to work fine for me in 1.5 Release 4 (for 10.4) and 1.6
Developer Preview 5 (for 10.4).
Getting the user's name TextField to initially display characters
is a pain.
Clicking the TextField to start the cursor and then clicking the
applet once
or twice usually gets the TextField to start working properly.
Once it starts working it is ok.
This problem doesn't occur in either Windows or Linux.
I have tried adding requestFocus() to the TextField action,
but that doesnt help. Is there a way to get the TextField to
display text without going through the hassle?
BTW, this for a larger project at http://www.deepmatrix.org
The end goal is to get FreeWRL an open-source VRML and X3D viewer
for OS X
and Linux (http://freewrl.sourceforge.net) to work with our multi-
user
Deep Matrix applet (previously for windows VRML plugins only)
Initial trials show promise, but the applet has to be run with the
appletviewer.
