Re: memory leaks / finding object references



thanks a lot. i've been programming java for five years but never realized there is such thing as profilers. this tool is really good. at first i was shocked by seeing how basically all objects ever created had interrelated references, but after a bit of struggling i finally managed to find those three lines of code that were responsible for wrongly keeping references, resulting in virtually none of my classes reappearing in the diffs. ;o)

A free memory/heap profiler with decent functionality is available at
http://jb2works.com/refscan/usage.html.  It allows you to take heap
snapshots and automatically create diffs to analyze.
I've used it only once, but found it to be helpful.
