Re: Please use J2SE 5.0 as your default VM

I filed bug 4395473 as:

#1. When one starts a java app from a web page, such as roomity.com <http://roomity.com> the dialog is supposed to look like this:
http://weblogs.java.net/blog/stanleyh/archive/2005/10/new_security_di_1.html#more <http://weblogs.java.net/blog/stanleyh/archive/2005/10/new_security_di_1.html#more>
The dialog in Apple Java looks funny and says some really strange words, not similar to what other platforms do.
My cretificate is from 3rd party and valid :-)

#2. May need help from safari, since it leaves jnlp-1, jnlp-2, each time it runs on the desktop (should be linke bitmaps in cache)

#3. JNLP specifiys that an application should be added on the menu. Roomity.com <http://Roomity.com> jnlp adds a shortcut, but this does not work on apple java

#4. It's supposed to have always trust check box so it does not ask every time. It does not.

It's been about three months since we released J2SE 5.0 Release 3 for Tiger as a Software Update. J2SE 5.0 is a terrific product; it's our VM of choice as we go about our day-to-day business. Currently, several million Tiger customers have J2SE 5.0 installed on their machines, but... probably not as their preferred VM.

What we don't know:
If there are applications out there that will have problems when J2SE 5.0 becomes the preferred VM.

What we would really like for you all to do:
Help us find out. Make 5.0 the preferred VM, and tell us how it goes.

More specifically, we'd like our java-dev friends who have Tiger to do the following:

0) Install the latest Java software updates, including J2SE 5.0 Release 3
1) Launch /Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/Java Preferences.app
2) Click on the General tab
3) In the Java Applet Runtime Settings area, select J2SE 5.0
4) In the Java Application Runtime Settings area, drag J2SE 5.0 to the first position.
5) Click the Save button to save the changes

    and...

6) Let us know how it goes, especially if it goes badly. File bugs! http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/
