This is very sad message. I can't believe I find myself saying it, but
I can no longer ignore the speed differences between Eclipse (with
JBossIDE) on the Mac vs. the PC. I have an awesome Mac at work, dual G5
was top of the line 5 months ago or so. 4GB RAM. However, when it comes
to Eclipse and debugging JBoss (with JBoss IDE) which is what I use
it for 95% of the
day, it's really slow. I have 2.8 GHz 32-bit P4 at home with a lot less
RAM, a significantly older machine, and it runs Eclipse and the
debugger MUCH faster than the Mac. I thought the switch to Java 1.5
would solve some of these problems (not as the JVM to RUN eclipse but to
debug apps in it), but it didn't. I don't know what to do, and I'm very
close to giving up and switching back to the PC for Java development.
There is still the outstanding issue of Eclipse getting slower and
slower
as it stays open longer and longer on the Mac and the audio choppiness
that accompanies it.
Firstly, is this even a Java problem? Is it just an Eclipse or JBoss
IDE problem?
Has anyone else experienced this, come up with any remedies for this?
Some of you may suggest an alternate IDE such as IDEA but whole company
has a policy of using Eclipse.
Seriously please let me know if anyone else has noticed this disparity
(i.e. worked with both platforms simulatenously or frequently enough to
really compare them), because often I feel like the only one. It
really pains me to
be complaining about the mac too, because for EVERYTHING else, I
enjoy them SO much more.
Thanks,
Bradley
