Firstly, is this even a Java problem? Is it just an Eclipse or
JBoss IDE problem?
Has anyone else experienced this, come up with any remedies for this?
My understanding is that this is mostly an Eclipse problem,
specifically SWT. SWT is much more optimized for the Windows
environment and Mac and Linux users of Eclipse have complained about
the dismal performance of Eclipse and SWT on both platforms in the
past. I don't know if that's yet been remedied for Linux users. Andre
Weinand would know more about what the future holds for SWT on the Mac.

Seriously please let me know if anyone else has noticed this disparity
(i.e. worked with both platforms simulatenously or frequently
enough to
really compare them), because often I feel like the only one. It
really pains me to
be complaining about the mac too, because for EVERYTHING else, I
enjoy them SO much more.
Yes, I've noticed the significant disparity. I use Eclipse on Win XP
all day at work, and use Eclipse on Mac OS X at home. When I had an
old 667 Mhz TiBook, Eclipse was not really usable. Now with a 17" PB,
it's more usable, but annoyingly slow compared to my PC at work.
Still, like others, the entire Mac experience trumps this so I
continue with my PB at home and just learn some patience :). I also
don't have to run a J2EE container in debugging mode either, at least
not yet.
