JBuilder 2005 runs on Java 1.4 but it needs the development tools CD
(Xcode) to install
Ok I have sold my PowerBook (no apple here) but I have a lot of
experience with JBuilder 2005 on OS 10.
1) You need to install Xcode and all the Java devtool things (default
installation will suffice) for it to install properly
2) Make sure that Java 1.4 is your default Java Virtual Machine, or else
insert into jdk.config or jbuilder.config under "JBuilder 2005 | bin"
directory a proper string command that let JBuilder know that you want
another Java virtual machine to fire up JBuilder (you need to Google for
it – I will post the proper “addvw string” if I find it though - other
people mentioned the info.plist file and this may very well be the
proper way to do it)
The only problem(s) I can see as of why you are not able to run JBuilder
is that you have not installed Xcode devtools or Java 5 is the default
virtual machine
so have you tried to set Java 1.4 as the default virtual machine via the
Java configuration thingy under Applications|utilities?
Since Im not on any Apple hardware at the moment I can not really help
you (I don`t even know if the official Java 5 implementation is out and
the default virtual machine for OS 10 is Java 5 so...)
Anyways - hope this helps
Since isAlwaysOnTop() is new for 1.5, I presume means that JBuilder is
stuck on 1.5.
It does appear to be that way, so running under 1.4 would be impossible.
NOPE – even on windows JBuilder starts up under java 1.4 (it uses the bundled version found inside the JBuilder 2005 directory)
just make sure that JBuilder starts up under Java 1.4 and you should be all set to go
