Re: Can I launch and keep the JavaVM around?

Our Dolet 3 plug-in for reading and writing MusicXML files from Finale is a mostly Java plug-in for a Carbon application:

  http://www.recordare.com/finale/

We launch the Java 1.4 VM from Carbon once using JNI invocation and keep it around, making JNI callbacks from Java back into the C++ code. But we:

1) Call it synchronously, and
2) Don't use any Java UI functions

I have not seen any documentation that states that a Carbon and Java combination is not supported - just that a Carbon UI and Java UI combination is not supported. Within those constraints, Carbon and Java 1.4 has worked fine for us from 10.2.8 through 10.4.3.

Best regards,
