script that renames itself, then copies into its place a copy of

That way you always get a JavaApplicationStub that's compatible with
the user's machine.


Whether that is the best thing for your application is probably up to you to decide.
One other thing to keep in mind is that launch services can get erratic for modified application bundle contents when the modification date of the bundle itself isn't changed. So doing a 'touch' or lsregister -f on the app bundle itself might be an idea at the same time.
