The Cocoa-Java bridge going away is not really related to Apple
moving Java forward on the platform. If I were to guess, the
philosophy would be:
Apps that run only on macs should be done in Objective-C, because
that is the best language for the platform, and certainly the most
popular language being used.
"Most popular being used" - I think you meant "for Mac OS
developers" :-) AFAIK Java is steadily the most used programming
language in the world, while Objective C is below the 40th place.
There are not many people using Java to make cocoa apps, because
the main reason to use Java is cross-platform, and using Apple
specific functionality from Java just doesn't make sense.
Hmm... I don't think so. It makes perfectly sense that somebody is
developing cross-platform applications and nevertheless wants to
implement the deepest possible integration with Mac OS X,
using Apple specific features. I understand that this is somewhat
against the WORA principle, but sounds like a reasonable trade-off to
me.
In any case, if giving up to Cocoa-Java is the price for having Java
6 delivered on time, I'd give thumbs up to that. :-)
