Re: Are we still being polite about Java 6 ?

Hi Ross (and the other people who've made similar points),
Yes, I absolutely agree with you - but I don't think that anyone here has actually apportioned any blame on the actual Apple developers or said a single nasty thing about them. We all understand that whatever is happening it's not because of a decision that has been made by the developers, who are a talented and lovely group of people. I don't want to make them feel unappreciated or unloved. Actually, I kind of presume that if I were an engineer on the Java team I would be very very frustrated with the current situation and I'd want to do something about it and I guess my original intent in posting an email about this topic was that perhaps to help lend support to any of the developers in Apple who might be trying to persuade a manager somewhere that it's a bad idea to leave their developers out in the cold.

By the way - is that always your .sig or did you just add it especially for this occasion :

I just wanted to point out something.

Since we're all developers here, I'm pretty sure we all understand the uncomfortable position the Apple Java developers are placed in regarding postings on this particular topic. I have no doubt the Apple Java developers are committed to developing a kick-ass implementation of Java for the Apple platform. They're probably just as frustrated as we are by the corporate policies they have to live by.

Even though I think we all share this sentiment, I wanted to explicitly state this and thank them for their work.

I have a feeling there's a lot in common between the Apple Java developers, and the developers in Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit. They both do some great work, and are under-appreciated by the general Mac community.
