Then ask the question yourself. Sun's forums are read/write, not read-only.

GroupLayout is a Java 6 standard class. It won't be used a lot on Mac OS
X, because Java 6 is still only in preview, and under NDA.
IIRC, GroupLayout is also included with NetBeans. So you might ask on a
NetBeans support forum, too.
And there's a note (in the comments) on using INDENT instead of gaps:

Maybe post a comment there.
I don't see why indentation would be less applicable to Windows layouts.
If a layout is complex enough to benefit from indents (as distinct from
gaps), then it will benefit from them on any platform. Visual clarity is
visual clarity regardless of platform.
