I think 'unpopular' is incorrect. Maybe 'low profile' would be
better. Unpopular implies an active dislike. Nor is it idealistic -
in fact, the Smalltalk vendors and community, given it's size, tends
to be somewhat too 'agile' for my taste.
Large commercial systems are delivered in Smalltalk - I'm delivering
two commercial VisualWorks Smalltalk systems right now, and I can
report that the development process is enormously more enjoyable
than the Java Spring/Hibernate stuff I was doing. I haven't felt
such an increase in power and intellectual leverage since I switched
from Windows/MacOS C++ to Nextstep, and Objective-C doesn't begin
compare to the power of Smalltalk!
