I am a bit in doubt it is such a good idea to let Sun also do the OSX port.
The already have a hard time supporting Unix and Windows together -
even Sun devs write that they are plagued a lot by the lack of enough
developers.
So Sun would have to spend additional money on OSX development or it
would slow down the overall development of Java - both which would not
make me happy.
I think the current OpenJDK stuff is quite interesting and keeping in
mind a lot of work can be shared between FreeBSD and OSX this sounds
like an interesting thing.
Of course "native" AWT would be the hardest part, but e.g. as a small
workarround a tiny X-Server could be bundled with the release - nobody
would see or feel a difference.
