It's explained here:
http://blogs.sun.com/bblfish/entry/vote_for_java6_on_leopard
It's a string you just add to your blog post to register your vote.
The blog post itself could be the id, and then one could count every
person linking to that URL.
But that would tie everyone to my blog, and some may find that
suspicious. We could also have generated a
URN, and if one wanted to develop this idea into a distributed bug
database using rdf one would do something
like that.
I am a bit in doubt it is such a good idea to let Sun also do the
OSX port.
The already have a hard time supporting Unix and Windows together -
even Sun devs write that they are plagued a lot by the lack of enough
developers.
So Sun would have to spend additional money on OSX development or it
would slow down the overall development of Java - both which would not
make me happy.
I think the current OpenJDK stuff is quite interesting and keeping in
mind a lot of work can be shared between FreeBSD and OSX this sounds
like an interesting thing.
Of course "native" AWT would be the hardest part, but e.g. as a small
workarround a tiny X-Server could be bundled with the release - nobody
would see or feel a difference.
