Re: Why Quaqua install location

Hi Michael,

You don't need to install anything in /System/Library/Java.
You just need to include this directory in your class path. This directory contains the Java API for Cocoa.

This directory needs to be in the class path because Quaqua 3.x uses the Java API for Cocoa to render icon previews in the file chooser and to render the application icon in option panes.

You can safely omit this directory with Quaqua 4.x, if you ship the libquaqua.jnilib along with quaqua.jar.
In case you don't ship libquaqua.jnilib with quaqua.jar, Quaqua 4.x will attempt to call the Java API for Cocoa as a fall-back.
In case this fails, Quaqua 4.x will downgrade gracefully.

With kind regards,
Werner

Why does Quaqua recommend the install location of

instead of
/Library/Java/Extensions like every other .jar file on the mac?
