In case anyone else is annoyed at that X11 dialog, there's a setting you can tweak to eliminate it.
In a command shell, do the following:


% defaults write com.apple.x11 no_quit_alert true

I couldn't get my machines to schedule a clean shutdown until I set it.

although I just did a man on 'defaults' and it looks like that might not work once the application is running and I am launching X11 at login. But I haven't tried it yet, so maybe, otherwise I'll try to track down where the application itself has that set and change it there.
