what is the channel to push for (like pushing a brick wall I guess) Apple to
release JAI 1.1.3 and related ImageIO codes together *with* native
acceleration?
James Cheng from Sun told on an other list that the source
has been released to Apple, so I presume Apple is working on it.
I'd be happy with just a binary release as long as the native acceleration is
there but an open sourced release would be even better.
Or dare I suggest it, but given the amazing accomplishment of the SoyLatte
project, should the Mac Java community try to do this on its own?
Sun has open sourced the Medialib native C library, which is a superset of the
JAI mlib acceleration library, so this should be doable. What is missing
is the Java wrappers ... on the other hand I see this (open sourcing the
remaining parts) happening sooner or later, I just wish it would be sooner!
