Darwin ajb-lap.local 9.0.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.0.0: Tue Oct 9
21:35:55 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1228~1/RELEASE_I386 i386
The default Java supplied with Leopard appears to be 1.5.0_13:
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Commands/java
-version
java version "1.5.0_13"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)
The reason why I didn't invoke just 'java -version' is that the Java
Preferences.app in Utilities crashes and won't let me reset the system
Java to 1.5. After installing Leopard and discovering the system Java
was 1.5, I had changed to Java 1.6 Java Preferences.app to 1.6, now it
crashes as well.
Java 1.6 itself that I had previously installed in April does not run/crashes.
For what it's worth, Leopard did not ask me if I wanted to clean OS
install. It did not appear to give me any options in this regard.
And if there is a software update waiting for me to download to
address any of the above, I cannot obtain it (at least via the
automated way) because my Software Update won't work -- error dialog
box says 'The file " index-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog" couldn't be
found on the server "swscan.apple.com", but this is off-topic now.
