can't say about ubuntu
but VMWare with WindowsXP  or with debian 4 (x86_64)
are very stable

I undecisive between choosing just simple dell xps or get a macbook pro , install vmware fusion and have a guest ubuntu OS on it.  The reason i need a loptop is just purely for java development. I wonder anyone of u using leopard and using using vmware fusion with guest ubuntu OS for java development? I worry about the stability of the operating system by running vmware all the time and wonder does that likely to crash likely?  i'm already fed up with vista frequent, program crashing and "prompting finfing solutions"...    looking forward from guru feedback... should i just get a dell or macbook pro?
