| As far as heat goes, you'll find that using lots of CPU creates heat, and VMWare will not use more CPU than you need, so in that respect it's just like any other application. The RAM question is more difficult. I use a Ubuntu server VMWare image which exactly matches my Slicehost server. In other words, you may want to try and match your target environment. If you don't need to do Swing development, you'll be in great shape. I don't usually do hardcore coding in VMWare. I have a Linux workstation and my Macs for that.
