Re: looking for laptop to do java development

I'm running WinXP, Ubuntu, SuSE and Fedora under Parallels Desktop with
Mac OS X and I would not trade this for anything.

I do most Java and C stuff in Mac OS but when I need to test them in
Linux or Windows, it is just a keystroke away (I keep one or two guest
OSes running in the background all the time and see mostly no
performance degradation on 2 GHz 2GB MacBookPro (I have upgraded the
internal disk to a larger on though)).

To me Mac combines the best of all worlds: it mostly just works, I like
the hardware, I like the OS best althoug it is not perfect, but there is
none better (to me), and underneat there is proper Unix opening up that
world to me do that kind of stuff, and when I need to run the odd
corporate compulsory windowz only software I can pop into windows.

No stability problems, don't remember the last time I booted Mac OS,
Windows needs to be booted for the odd update, but that is not stability
issue. Don't remember the Linuxes going down ever, but then they do not
get that much excercise anyway.

A co-worker uses WMWare on Mac OS to do some embedded stuff in Linux
that is too much hashle to port to Unix/Mac OS and seems to be very
happy: does everything he can on Mac OS and the rest in Linux.

I undecisive between choosing just simple dell xps or get a macbook pro
, install vmware fusion and have a guest ubuntu OS on it. The reason i
need a loptop is just purely for java development. I wonder anyone of u
using leopard and using using vmware fusion with guest ubuntu OS for
java development? I worry about the stability of the operating system by
running vmware all the time and wonder does that likely to crash likely?
i'm already fed up with vista frequent, program crashing and "prompting
finfing solutions"... looking forward from guru feedback... should i
just get a dell or macbook pro?
