Hi again,

-client does always override the automatic server-class machine
detection. Furthermore that detection is only enabled on server-class
OSs (linux, Windows Server only, Solaris).

Well not on OSX, but with the latest JDK7-ea builds you can put the
JVM in tired mode with command-line arguments:
-server -XX:+TieredCompilation -XX:CompileThreshold=2000
-XX:Tier2CompileThreshold=50000 (-XX:+DoEscapeAnalysis
-XX:+AggressiveOpts)
or do you mean that the server-compiler causes apps to become
unresponsive. Well simply using netbeans with -server proofs this.
With the server-compiler only, people will soon again talk about
"slow-java" when they are on OSX. Maybe thats exactly what Steve would
like, ruin java's reputation and the discontinue to support it.
