The time from double-click to ready to type is also a bit shorter on
my machine, which is the only startup metric I'm concerned with as
far as Nebeans is concerned.

Faster yes, because the generated code is faster.
However code generation itself is WAY slower, furthermore it takes
much more invokations until a method is compiled (10000 vs. 1500),
which negativly affects startup-performance as well as responsivness
directly after startup.

Netbeans sure seems faster on my machine since pointing it to 6
last night.

unresponsive. Well simply using netbeans with -server proofs this.
With the server-compiler only, people will soon again talk about
"slow-java" when they are on OSX. Maybe thats exactly what Steve
would
like, ruin java's reputation and the discontinue to support it.
