Re: Im starting to despise java programming for the mac



At the risk of dragging out this thread, I agree with Jason, Kustaa, Mikael and probably many others.

My app <http://driveweb.com/tech/update.php> is for programming and monitoring industrial control equipment. It uses lots of Swing and Java2D, does plenty of TCP/IP and serial comms, supports e-commerce, etc.

Most of our users are still stuck with Windows (although some are switching to Mac OS X - almost unheard of in industrial control), so we need a cross-platform programming environment - Java works well. Also, Java Web Start is excellent for deploying and updating the software.

I develop on Mac OS X and validation testing is done on Windows before release. There are *very* few platform-specific bugs - write- once, run anywhere is mostly true in my experience.
