Re: java printing font issue on leopard

Ah. I see the problem printing from NB6 to PDF. Not good.

Hi Adrian.
Thanks for your reply.
It seems that the problem exists regardless of what font you select ... although the font selection does affect the rendering problem in that you can see a difference between different font selections. Therefore, some fonts look worse than others. The one that I've found to look the best is Arial Black ... but it still doesnt look right when compared to the same printout from a mac os x 10.4 system. Every other font I tried is barely readable.

So yes, all fonts are affected ... Monospaced, Times, Palatino, etc... I've tried them all.
As a test case, well I'm not sure what else to say. Basically the easiest way to see this is to launch Netbeans, create a new file of any type and type some text in it, then print. Whether you print to paper or PDF you will see the problem.
You can also see this problem if you print from/using JasperReports. The application we write here uses JasperReports and all printouts are affected by this rendering problem using any font.

I can also attach a PDF example for anyone who wants to see one of my tests.

Please reply with your own experiences with this issue. I'm desperately trying to find a fix or a work around that "doesnt suck" for a bunch of clients and for myself. Also, I'm not sure how to report this to Apple or check to see if they are aware of it. If someone can direct me with a link or something that would be great.

Thanks.
:-)

Is that all fonts, or just one or two in particular? As it happens
with Netbeans on dozens of different Macs, perhaps you can describe a
test case for people here to try.
