Also, you might want to see the bug I filed (# 5703646) on this and add a comment that you've observed it on intel machines. If you have a good test case that reproduces the multiple-second delays it would be very useful for getting attention paid to the bug, and I would be interested as well. (My test case only reproduces a ~300ms latency on slow hardware; i've seen the multi-second delays but not found a good test case for them yet).
