If you don't specify it you get the platform specific default - Aqua on OS
X, Metal on Sun JVMs but the default L&F can be configured in various ways
so you shouldn't depend on it anywhere.

Aha, it all makes sense now. Had no idea that Mac JVM used a different L&F. That's a problem with not having a Mac computer and asking a friend to test my program remotely. I will try reseting the Caret to DefaultCaret and see if that fixes the problems. Thank you all for the quick response. I will post the result back here.
