Hello Gerhard,
I know this can be done but this is not correct. There should be a cross-platform way to do this!

There is AppleJavaExtensions available from http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/AppleJavaExtensions/index.html
You have to implement an ApplicationAdapter and overwrite "handleOpenFile" and "handleOpenApplication".
An example of a Webstart-Application using this can be found at:

Maybe this can save some time for you.
