Thank you very much for your reply.

While trying to create a test case using the QuickTime screen recorder, I noticed that the recordings are perfectly synced.
Therefore it is not the JVM's fault. :-)

I think the tearing has to do with my LED Cinema Display.
Maybe there is a syncing disparity with the laptop display onto which my desktop screen extends.
Unfortunately neither System Preferences nor the System Profiler show me the vertical refresh rate of either displays.
Should have looked into that before affording this mailing list.
