Good volumetric shadows tutorial FOR GAMES...?



I'm looking for a tutorial that covers volumetric shadows for games.

Specifically for games, meaning that it's more important to me that the code
be small, simple & fast rather than that it be exactly right, as for
rendered artwork. A tutorial that started with the simple "rough cut" then
gradually expanded on that toward "perfect", with discussion of the various
gains & costs would be ideal.

What I'm trying to do is: I'd like my game to have a "sunny side" and "shady
side" of the street -- so when you walk over HERE, the ambient light is
brighter, and when you walk over THERE, the ambient light is lower.
Likewise, if someone is standing half under the shade of a tree, I'd like
for parts of them to be more well-lit than others.

Any helpful hints?
