Pixel format across multiple screens

Hi,
I was wondering how strict the rule is now with creating a pixel format
which can work with multiple devices. As I have a 2 monitor display powered
by the same card, and I just happened to create a pixel format for the main
display and for a window render I could drag it around both windows no
problem and even have a half on one and half on the other with no problems.

I am unable to test with 2 cards with each a separate display would the
result have been different with either 2 ATIs or 1 ATI and 1 nVidia. As the
pixel formats I request are either going to be 16 or 32 pixel depth which
should be hopefully the same format on both displays.
