waking display, regression tests, offscreen gl contexts

We have regression tests that run every night. On our OSX box we have a user logged in but the screen is locked. There is a cron job running for that user that kicks of the regression tests. Regression tests make png/jpg's of our visualization.

If the display is awake even thought the screen is locked (w/ system screen saver), everything works great.

If the display is asleep, all png/jpg's (glReadPixels thru a gl context), end up black.

So...

a) Is there a shell command to wake up the display?

b) Is there an easy way to get hardware accelerated offscreen gl contexts considering were running under GLUT?

(Obvious alternative is to have the display never sleep in the energy saver control panel.)

Thanks,
