glGetString(GL_VENDOR) does what you want but it's not considered parseable in that it isn't guarenteed to follow any given syntax. Depending on what you're doing it's better to base code paths by check for extensions you need. That said if it's a bug you're working around GL_VENDOR is probably your best bet.
