I managed to duplicate a driver bug (on nvidia cards at least) where if
I enable GL_SGIS_generate_mipmap and use GL_ARB_texture_compression at
the same time when creating a texture, my app crashes. Sometimes it
displays garbage textures instead of crashing.
I submitted the bug as Bug ID# 4063087.
The crash happened on my GeForce2MX and other people reported the
problem on other nvidia cards. I'm not sure if the crash happens on ATI
cards.
So, as a warning, if you are experiencing crashes when creating textures
with both GL_SGIS_generate_mipmap and GL_ARB_texture_compression, try
turning off GL_SGIS_generate_mipmap and see if that helps.
