It's part of OpenGL core 1.4 and 2.0 now. So you can check the GL_VERSION

Part of OpenGL 1.4 again, the extension is not there, but it's part of the
core, so it's fine.

Well a shader would do the same job and faster. So there is an existing
workaround ...
