Shininess on Texture

Hi, I set specular to 1.0 and shininess to 128 and I get a nice effect on my
surface when I use a non-white surface color. Then I apply a texture and the
shining effect disappears. How to keep it?

I tried to set the surface color to gray and to modulate the texture. It
works, but with some troubles. The shining effect depends on the percentage
of the black in the gray surface color, but if I set the surface color to
black I don't see the texture longer. If I set the surface color to white
the shininess effect disappears while I see a flat-color texture. If I set
the surface color to gray, I get the shininess effect but the texture looks
darker, and anyway the texture never gets white zones in the center of the
shininess. At the maximum shininess it gets its own colors, not white.
Any suggestion?

Best Regards
